welcome to Y2K part deux.
It bothers me that no one seems to have noticed ICANN's latest decision, or said anything about it...

utterly amazing...

I noticed it a few days ago but haven't been able to form coherent thoughts about it. Mostly its just "@#$%!"

how could it be y2k part 2? if dns resolves to the new domains then all is good, no?

dogs n cats, living together, mass hysteria!!!

I'm pondering shitty code and embedded devices that're locked to 24 bytes for the TLD field.

Oh no! Everyone will just have to buy a newer shinier thing! This is even better than the batteries in ipods! :-)

see, that was my second thought.
then I linked it to the more rational conspiracy theorists making up some kind of new internet tracking crap that's quietly in all new devices on market, and this is all just a push to get people on the untrackable ancient tech up to date, and on the radar again.
and then i got REALLLY retarded.
it was awesome.

This was all over the newspaper :-p

I'm keeping an eye on it, because I have to race all the other people with my sirname to snap it up as a TLD.

It's like vinyl, but for news. They say that it's "richer" and "warmer" because it's analogue.

Also, you can make paper hats and boats with it.

I noticed when you told me about it.

That's the wierd side effect of having days off - there's news and stuff happening in the world. It's a little scary.

oddly, the more they expand TLD real estate, the more .COM still remains the most desirable.

I think we should start naming domains after children who have been murdered by child molesting, flesh eating, serial killers. Because, we should always remember to never forget. We could sell these domains to make money, though. Them, we could give that money to a charity, and claim that we are making the world a brighter place.

Damn, I see coding nightmare. My dev guys are already dealing with having to adjust our apps to incorporate email addresses that have 4 character extension (e.g. .info), ICANN's decision will make things much much much worse.
