I saw "plantar" and thought "plantar wart," which both my Hubster and I have suffered from, but when I Wiki'ed it saw it was a totally different animal.

The Hubster's only suggestion was, "Isn't that from Lord of the Rings? Isn't that how Saruman communicated with people, the Plantar?" I hit him for you.

My Mom has heel spurs. When I see her today, I'll ask what she did for them. :-( Foot pain is no joke.

Haven't had either, but I'm very familiar with plantar fasciitis. What's up? You experiencing symptoms?

Ouch.

My mom had it (has it? I dunno) and found relief with good arch support, and shoes with a negative heel. There are stretches, too, that really help. I've seen little devices that rock your heel back, point your toes up, and help with that stretch.

Which is why I'm annoyed, I keep the plantar pretty well stretched due to all the other gimpiness. I'm hoping it's similar, as opposed to literal symptoms, due to my recent changing of footwear.
At this point, I'm just going to start making custom frigging footwear and be done with it.

And [info]arizonakelly just told me that one of her friends had heel spurs, and she would put a bottle of water in the freezer, and every morning would sit down and roll the frozen bottle around under her foot to reduce the inflammation. Sorry, that's all I've got at the moment.

I had plantar fasciitis it and as long as I don't fuck up my running form and do my stretches and recovery tricks, I shouldn't have a flare-up again.

you cause yours by not stretching enough, or was it footwear/abuse...
I do a decent amount of stretching all the time because of my knee wonkiness, so I'm kinda perturbed by this recent development.
friggin new shoes and such... meh.

A bit of both. Since I'm a pronator and don't have a typical runner's body, I put more stress on my feet. This causes my shoes to wear out faster and I have to be mindful of my running form. The fascia has to be both stretched and strengthened to prevent this.

At home and work, I'm usually barefoot. This helps with my feet after the pounding from running. I will ice my foot by rolling along a frozen water bottle (I found Aquafina bottles are just right for me). The cold numbs the area and the firmness of the ice in the bottle breaks up scar tissue and makes the muscles more flexible. I will also do exercises with my feet by picking up coins, marbles, pencils, and towels with my foot and toes. I'll also write the alphabet in the air with my foot and toes as well. This strengthens the foot and also promotes flexibility.

Stretching the foot is not quite the same as doing knee work (but it's close). Check this out and you'll see what I mean (note the dude rolling his foot).

And you can always tape it too. This works out really well. (I use duct tape when doing this):
